Speech about football.

 Football Speech

Introduction

3.5 billion people watched the last global competition, Over 250 million people from 200 countries play it worldwide, with over 5 million referees which is the population of New Zealand. I’m talking about football, the most watched and played sport in the world. I realise we live in a country where rugby is everything but I want to educate you today on some fascinating stuff that you may not know about the “beautiful game” as it has been called.

History and impact of football

Football has been around a long time, it was invented in China many centuries ago but became popular in the mid 1800s. Back in those days the rules had not been agreed on, there were no specific rules for fouls, offsides, handballs and many more,  Both teams would wear the same colour and there was no different uniforms between the teams, and there was no specific goalkeeper position until 1909 when the person who stayed back the most would have a different coloured shirt And from there they just kept improving the rules. Football has become a global mega sport because of how simple it is - all you need is a ball, flat ground and some players and of course you can play it whatever age you are.

How Famous players got to the point there at

What’s amazing is that some of the most famous football players in the world have totally different backgrounds and upbringings.

Pele who was one of the best football players in the world started as a young boy you grew up in poverty in Brazil in South America. He found he had a talent for football when he and his friends would kick around a makeshift ball made of clothes and other things, and then when he was 15 he moved to his closest club and was quickly signed for the team and went on from there to play for the brazilian national team and helped them win many world cups.

Messi is another example,he is currently the best player in the world but when he was a young boy he was diagnosed with a growth disorder which meant that he was going to remain much shorter in height, treatments for this disease were too expensive for his family to afford. So now with his small and slim build he has been hugely successful. Starting his career playing for FC Barcelona's under-14’s team. He scored 21 goals in 14 games for the junior team which is amazing, so he quickly graduated through the higher-level teams until at age 17 he had his debut with FC Barcelona in a friendly match.

Facts

Did you know during every game of football players run an average of 9km and the first game of basketball was played with a football. And did you know 80% of footballs are made in Pakistan, but here is a surprising fact ... Neil Armstrong (that’s the first man to step on to the moon) wanted to take a football to the moon but was refused by NASA.Did you know that it was in 1946 that the first live coverage of a football match was shown on television. And guess where the biggest football stadium in the world is? Its in North Korea! And have you ever wondered why some people call it soccer and some people call it football? Well it’s mostly the Americans who call it soccer but pretty much everywhere else they call it football now!

Conclusion

So whether it’s the history and development of football or the brilliance of individual players who have overcome great challenges or the amazing facts I have shared, you now know a lot more about this beautiful game - a game that I love along with 3.5 billion other people and 3.5billion people can’t be wrong. So that is why I recommend that you all give it a try.

Electric Scooter

When my brother and I were playing football outside, our neighbour who has lots of cool gadgets in her garage, offered us her electric scooter to use for a week while they went away. So of course we accepted the offer, the electric scooter has three gears, it can go up to 40km/h, it also has brake lights, it is very enjoyable to ride on because it is so smooth. I have tried a lime scooter in town but this one is much better than the lime scooters, because the wheeles are bigger so therefore it travels smoothly, when you let go of the accelerator it gradually comes to a stop unlike the limes that stop suddenly, also it has three gears so you can alter the speed unlike the limes that only have one gear.

Cross country video

On the weekend Mrs McLaughlin emailed me to ask me if I wanted to do a motivational video about starting to practice for cross country, So I replied saying I will accept the challenge. So I planed what I was going to say and we went to the Belfast school field to film it, but then it started raining, so I quickly got out of the car and filmed it. I got quite wet but fortunately that did not show up in the video. I filmed it at the Belfast school fields to make the connection because that is where we would be running.  I had good feed back about it which was encouraging.

Leonhard Euler math Puzzle

These are some of Leonhard Euler's maths puzzles, you have to draw them without taking your pen off the paper and without drawing over a line you have already done. Some of them were easy and some of them were quite hard, especially numbers 4, 6, 14 and 19 Which I have not completed yet.

Leonhard Euler lived from 1707 - 1783, was born in Switzerland. He was excellent at Maths, Physics and astronomy. He developed ways to solve math problems in astronomy. He wrote lots of books and was called the greatest mathematician of his time. He developed the theory of trigonometry, that is still used in math today. He gradually lost his sight from so much study and writing and was totally blind for the last 12 years of his life.
